harbor and landing stages
A world of 700 meters: that's how long the landing stages are and there is hardly any place where you can experience the maritime charm of this city in such a compressed form as here. In front of you lies the blue water with ships, sailors and boats. Behind you are colorful souvenir shops and quaint fish stalls, while the sun shines above everything. This is how life in Hamburg can be!
What you must not forget when walking across the jetties is that you are not standing on solid ground - you are standing on a pontoon. These floating piers have a long tradition in the Hanseatic city. The first ones were built in 1839. Not only because they made it easier for steamships to dock, but also because the pontoons could be used to store the coal for propulsion. The pontoons that are now located at the jetties have been there since 1955.
By the way: The Landungsbrücken are not only a real magnet for landlubbers from all over the world, but have also been used as a film set. Scenes from “The Confessions of Felix Krull, Imposter” were filmed here, the road movie “Magical Mystery” was partly set here and Hollywood stars such as Gene Hackman and Matt Dillon took part in wild chases for “Target”.
